DUTIES: This position works directly

counselor, this position meets with the applicant and explains the Teaching

REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling, Orientation & Mobility, Rehabilitation Teaching, Education, Social Work, Sociology, Behavioral Science, or Human Services AND possess current certification in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy (formerly called Rehabilitation Teaching) issued by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Educational Professionals (ACVREP). If your Master's Degree is in any of the disciplines listed above (other than Rehabilitation Counseling), please submit the Rehabilitation Counselor I Education form. Proof of certification and a copy of your college transcripts must accompany the application. Position instructs clients in alternative techniques for communications with self and others; Braille reading and writing; information storage and retrieval; adapted time telling pieces; the telephone and adaptive computer technology; use of residual vision, environmental modifications and home/personnel management to prepare them for independence in the employment setting and/or home setting. Following a referral from the State DVR counselor, the position meets with the applicant and explains the orientation and Mobility/Rehabilitation Teaching services and discusses the service delivery process.
REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a Master's Degree in Orientation and Mobility, Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling, Rehabilitation Teaching, Education, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Behavioral Science, or Human Resources (bachelor's degree level, please read "SPECIAL NOTE" listed above). DUTIES: The primary focus of a Rehabilitation Counselor I is to assist individuals who have disabilities to achieve and maintain successful employment outcomes through the application of the rehabilitation process. Effective implementation of the rehabilitation process involves the following activities:
Meeting with individuals who are referred for services and establishing a positive relationship with a continuous emphasis on eventual employment success
Assuring applicants possess a thorough understanding of their rights and responsibilities throughout the rehabilitation process

Applying the principles of necessary, appropriate and least possible cost to the purchasing and procurement of goods and services per the IPE
Maintaining regular, meaningful contact with all eligible individuals for the purpose of monitoring progress towards attaining goals and resolving barriers that arise
Developing relationships with employers and conducting job placement activities to assist eligible, job ready individuals to successfully obtain employment
Thoroughly documenting all activities and decisions in accordance with state and federal laws, regulations, policies and procedures
It is expected that rehabilitation counselors participate in training activities to maintain and update knowledge of areas such as Federal and State policies and procedures, the Americans with Disabilities Act, assistive technology, medical aspects of disabilities and other training as needed.
REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling OR possession of a current Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) credential that was issued by the Commission for Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) OR be eligible to apply for the CRC credential. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provides ongoing guidance, counseling and support to clients in areas of concern and interest, helping meet employment goals and placement with an employer; gathers client information, such as medical and psychological diagnoses, financial resources, support systems and work history, determining eligibility for DVR services; develops feasible job goal with clearly outlined objectives, measurements and responsibilities to successfully meet vocational goals; identifies appropriate services and service providers; monitors designated case service dollars, contracts, special fund monies and comparable cost services; authorizes funds to meet client's needs; develops, educates and maintains positive working relationship with referral sources, including public, employers, vendors, agencies and other professionals; provides postemployment services; makes presentation regarding services available and how services may be obtained; participates in agency, private and regional continuing education and training, expanding, improving and maintaining knowledge and skills; works with employers regarding reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities, ADA and benefits of hiring persons with disabilities; assists employers in developing a plan which establishes goals and objectives and reaches employees in an effective and efficient manner.
